Know the Destination

EBC i.e. Everest Base Camp, a trek that is a solid combination of beauty and toughness! For everyone willing to go close to Mt. Everest, this is the path to walk on!

A 14 day long trek; a part of Sagarmatha National Park, in Nepal to Everest base camp is one of the most beautiful treks which does not require any technical skills and yet it is the Highest trek in the world!

We fly from Kathmandu to Lukla and then the actual trekking journey begins!

P.S. The Lukla airport has a very unique runway  and is located at 9000 ft approx.

Itinerary:

DAY 1: Arrive to Kathmandu.

Kathmandu (4428 ft), is the beautiful capital of Nepal. Land in Kathmandu and settle down in the hotel room. Take time to explore the nearby market or relax as the trek commences from tomorrow.

DAY 2: Kathmandu to Lukla and trek to Phakding.

Walking Distance: 8km (3-4 hours)

Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla (45 mins) early in the morning. Start the trek to Phakding, a village at 8700ft which can be reached by walking alongside the river Dudhkoshi on the trail! After a trek of about 3-4 hours (8 kms), take in the beautiful surroundings and the fresh air and let your body and soul rejuvenate.

DAY 3: Phakding to Namche bazaar.

Rise and shine and have breakfast and then get ready to march towards Namche Bazaar (11283 ft) . It is the highest market in the world and is the biggest Sherpa village. Today we’ll be entering the Sagarmatha national park. A brief stop at the check point to get the documents and permits validated and have a quick lunch before we proceed to Namche Bazaar. It is a bit of a tough day as it’ll be 6-7 hours of walking (10/12kms) but mountains reveal their beauty to those that struggle with it!

DAY 4: Rest and Acclimatisation day.

Rest up, relax your body and enjoy Namche Bazaar. An acclimatisation walk to the Everest View Point for all those who want an active day at an altitude of 11,283 ft.

DAY 5: Trek to Tyangboche.

Moving upto 12,684ft., we will trek for about 6-7 hours (10kms) to reach a beautiful village called Tyangboche, which has a huge monastery and beautiful view of Mt. Ama Dablam.

DAY 6: Tyangboche to Dingboche/Pheriche.

Starting the trek after breakfast, we’ll reach Dingboche which is the biggest Sherpa settlement. Todays walk will be 6-7 hours long in which we’ll have to cover 11 kms. We’ll be advancing to 14,435ft.

DAY 7: Rest and Acclimatisation day.

After a tough hike of yesterday, just rest up at 14,435ft and let your energies rejuvenate so you can trek better tomorrow!

DAY 8: Trek to Lobouche

Now that we have gained altitude and will be gaining more, enjoy the trek of 11kms taking 6-7 hours to Lobuche which is at the height of 16,076ft. Todays trek will be special because we’ll be passing Dungla, where there are stupas and memorials in the name of the mountaineers and trekkers who succumbed to the Mighty Mt. Everest over the years. Now on the trek is going to become more tough because the altitude will have their effect on us!

DAY 9: Trek to Gorakshep

Walk to Gorakshep (approx 4 hours of walk). Todays walk will take us all to Gorakshep, where we all will rest up for tomorrows big day.

DAY 10: Kalapathar and EBC

Today’s day will start almost after midnight (approx 2 o clock) and will be approximately a 4 hours walk uphill.On reaching the top before sunrise, the charismatic experience that will be endured by us will be an experience for a lifetime. It will be the most spectacular sunrise that we’ll ever get to see with Mt. Everest and the neighbouring peaks turning their colour from White to Golden. After the theraputic morning, we’ll quickly have breakfast and starty our walk towards the base camp of mighty Mt. Everest where we will spend the night in the tent.

(Please understand that today’s entire day depends on weather. If the weather is not clear, the visit to Kalapathar will have no meaning as the views will be blocked.)

DAY 11: Return to Lukla

After an early breakfast, we will take a scenic helicopter ride from EBC to Pheriche and from Pheriche to Lukla (in two parts) where we will spend the night in the lodge.

(Also if the weather turns really bad, the helicopters may not fly in which situtaion we might have to walk back to Pheriche which is approx. 10-12 hours walk and then we’ll be flying from Pheriche to Lukla.)

DAY 12: Depart to Kathmandu

Enjoy the last brief flight from Lukla to Kathmandu and say our goodbyes to the mighty Mt. Everest.

DAY 13: Farewell and Team dinner.

Enjoy the last day at Kathmandu and explore Thamel market and a last team dinner where you can relive the moments and time spent on the mountain.

DAY 14: Depart from Kathmandu.

Leave for home with lots of memories and moments that we’ll cherish for a lifetime.
