Nestled in the Govind Pashu Vihar National Park in Uttarakhand, the Kedarkantha trek is a 6-day adventure cherished by trekkers of all levels. Rising to an altitude of 12,500 feet, this trek offers a perfect blend of challenge and beauty, making it a favorite among beginners. Its crown jewel is the summit climb, a steep but rewarding ascent that provides breathtaking 360-degree views of the Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, Rupin, and Black Peak ranges.

Itinerary:

DAY 1- DRIVE FROM DEHRADUN TO SANKRI

Distance – approx 190 km, Hours – 8-9hrs, Altitude: 1,920 m

The journey begins with an early morning drive from Dehradun to Sankri. This scenic route takes you through charming towns and villages, including Mussoorie, Nowgaon, Purola, and Mori. As you drive alongside the Tons River and through dense pine forests, the air is filled with the refreshing aroma of pines. Passing through Uttarakhand’s quaint villages such as Damta and Netwar, you’ll reach Sankri, the base camp. Accommodation is arranged in a cozy guesthouse to rest and prepare for the trek.

DAY 2- TREK FROM SANKRI TO JUDA KA TALAB

Distance – 4 km, Hours – 2/3 hours, Altitude – 2,774 m.

Marks the start of the trek, beginning with a hearty breakfast before setting out from Sankri to Juda Ka Talab. This 4-kilometer trek, taking 2–3 hours, is filled with charm as you pass through local villages like Saud, where you may see children heading to school and women starting their daily chores. The trail ascends through dense pine forests and steep ridges, culminating at the serene Juda Ka Talab. This picturesque lake, adorned with floating landmasses, offers a perfect spot for camping. The evening is magical, with a delicious dinner under a starlit sky.

DAY 3- JUDA KA TALAB TO KEDARKANTHA BASE CAMP

Distance – 4 km, Hours – 2/3 hrs, Altitude – 3,429 m.

The journey continues deeper into the pine forests as you trek from Juda Ka Talab to Kedarkantha base camp. The 4-kilometer trek, completed in 2–3 hours, opens up to a meadow dotted with shepherd’s huts. A further ascent of approximately a thousand feet brings you to the base camp. Surrounded by breathtaking views, this site is ideal for photographers and nature enthusiasts to soak in the beauty. Spend the evening relaxing and preparing for the summit climb.

DAY 4- KEDARKANTHA BASE CAMP TO SUMMIT AND RETURN TO JUDA KA TALAB 

Distance-  8 km, Hours- 5-6 hrs, Altitude- 3,810 m touch.

This is the most anticipated day of the trek. The climb to the Kedarkantha summit begins early, covering 8 kilometers in 5–6 hours. The summit rewards you with a panoramic 360-degree view of the Uttarakhand peaks, Chaainsheel Pass, Kailash ranges, and the Har Ki Dun valley. The summit is marked by a Trishul-topped stone cairn, adding a spiritual touch to the adventure. After enjoying the views, you’ll descend to the base camp for lunch and then continue downhill to Juda Ka Talab to camp for the night.

DAY 5- JUDA KA TALAB TO SANKRI

Distance – 4 km, Hours – 2/3 hours

The final trekking leg takes you from Juda Ka Talab back to Sankri. This 4-kilometer descent, completed in 2–3 hours, retraces your steps through the serene pine forests. Upon reaching Sankri, you’ll celebrate the end of an exhilarating trek with your team.

DAY 6- SANKRI TO DEHRADUN

Distance – approx 190 km, Hours – 8-9hrs.

The adventure concludes today with a drive back to Dehradun. The 190-kilometer journey takes 8–9 hours, allowing you to reminisce about the trek while the landscape transitions from rugged mountains to urban roads. Arriving in Dehradun by evening, you bid farewell to the majestic Himalayas, taking home unforgettable memories of this remarkable journey.
