Itinerary:
DAY 1- Drive from Srinagar to Aru
Drive: 103 km, Hours:3-4 hrs, Altitude:7950ft
The journey begins with a scenic drive from Srinagar to Aru, covering approximately 100 km in about 3.5 hours. Pahalgam, a well-known destination near Srinagar, is located en route, and the road passes through the picturesque areas of Anantnag or Bijbehra. The Bijbehra route, in particular, offers beautiful rural Kashmir scenery, dotted with apple orchards, walnut, and apricot trees. From Pahalgam, Aru is a short 12 km drive across the Lidder River, taking about half an hour. Arriving in Aru by early afternoon, you’ll be welcomed by its tranquil surroundings. Accommodation for the night is arranged in a cozy homestay, offering the perfect start to the adventure.
DAY 2- Trek from Aru to Lidderwat
Trek: 10 km, Hours:6-7 hrs, Altitude: 9,150 ft
The trek begins with a gentle but lengthy climb from Aru to Lidderwat, spanning 10 km and taking about 6 hours. The trail starts at the edge of Aru village and follows the course of the Lidder River, offering sweeping views of the region. As you progress, the trail winds through clusters of fir trees, clearings, and meadows with occasional glimpses of Gujjar huts and their families. Along the way, the trail crosses streams and wooden bridges, offering plenty of spots to rest and enjoy the pristine surroundings. The last stretch takes you through a beautiful meadow before reaching Lidderwat. The campsite here, located near clear streams and surrounded by fir trees, provides a serene setting for the night.
DAY 3- Trek from Lidderwat to Shekwas
Trek: 6 km, Hours: 5 hrs, Altitude: 11,000 ft
The trail from Lidderwat to Shekwas climbs steadily, covering 5.6 km in about 5 hours. Starting behind the PDA huts, the path ascends through pine forests and opens up to vast grasslands surrounded by towering mountains. The scenic beauty intensifies as the trail crosses clear streams and passes through clusters of Silver Birch trees. The journey continues through undulating meadows, offering stunning views of valleys merging together. The final stretch leads to the beautiful camping grounds of Shekwas, nestled amidst lush greenery and surrounded by towering peaks.
DAY 4- Trek from Shekwas to Tarsar
Trek: 4 km, Hours: 3-4 hrs, Altitude: 12,500 ft
Today’s trek covers 5 km in 4 hours, climbing to an altitude of 12,435 ft. The trail winds through grasslands and climbs steadily along a ridge overlooking the stream. The ascent reveals breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys and peaks. After crossing several ridges, the first glimpse of Tarsar Lake appears, which grows more captivating as you approach its shores. The campsite at Tarsar, located by the pristine lake, offers numerous flat spots to pitch tents and soak in the tranquility of the setting.
DAY 5- Trek from Tarsar to Sundersar via Tarsar Pass
Trek: 6 km, Hours: 5 hrs, Altitude: 13,100 ft
The trek from Tarsar to Sundersar covers 5 km in about 5 hours, crossing the Tarsar Pass at 13,140 ft. The descent from the pass into the Sundersar Valley is marked by breathtaking views of grassy meadows, grazing sheep, and sparkling streams. The trail meanders through lush landscapes, passing Bakkarval shelters and boulder-strewn paths before revealing the expansive meadows of Sundersar. The campsite at Sundersar, surrounded by towering cliffs and dotted with brooks, is an enchanting place to spend the night.
DAY 6- Trek from Sundersar to Homwas via Marsar
Trek: 11 km, Hours: 7 hrs, Altitude: 13,400 ft
The day begins with a climb to Marsar Lake, situated at an altitude of 13,165 ft, before descending to Homwas at 11,300 ft. The trek, spanning 9 km and taking about 7 hours, involves crossing ridges and boulder-laden trails. Marsar Lake, often shrouded in mist, is a hidden gem surrounded by snow-lined cliffs and lush greenery. After savoring the views, the trail retraces its path to Sundersar and then continues to Homwas through grassy stretches and streams. The campsite at Homwas marks the final night in the wilderness.
DAY 7- Trek from Homwas to Aru and Drive to Srinagar
Trek: 13 km,Hours: 6-7 hrs Drive: 104 km, 3-4 hrs, Altitude: 5,220 ft
The last day of the trek covers 13 km from Homwas to Aru, followed by a 3-4 hour drive back to Srinagar. The descent begins with a 2-hour trek to Lidderwat, offering a fresh perspective of the pine forests and Kolahoi Glacier. From Lidderwat, the trail continues for 10 km to Aru, passing through familiar meadows and forests. After a brief stop for lunch, the trek concludes at Aru by late afternoon. Vehicles will be arranged for the return journey, reaching Srinagar between 7-8 PM, bringing the adventure to a memorable close.
